EUROPA OXALÁ is an ambitious exhibition project made possible by the participation of second and third-generation European artists who, for family or other reasons, have maintained a connection to the African continent. Proposed by the Mucem (France), the Royal Museum for Central Africa – AfricaMuseum (Belgium), the Center for Social Studies of the University of Coimbra, and the Gulbenkian Foundation (France and Portugal), this project was born from the conviction that the works of these artists are an expression of a heterogeneous and cosmopolitan Europe and can help us understand the social and artistic transformations that are taking place.
